Falling in love with God by spending time with Him, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak the words of heaven into me, has been, and continues to be, a life changing experience. As part of this journey, I stick to the "A Year's in God's Word" reading plan above (other than when I read the NKJV Chronological version below), and have chosen to read different versions of the Living Word, the Bible. Each version is different and they are listed below.

What an awesome experience spending time with God using this version of the Living Word of God.

This devotional paraphrase brings the thoughts expressed in the Bible into clear focus.

The result is that you find not only more understanding in reading the Bible, but more joy.

Perfect for devotional reading, this edition features an easier-to-use format.

This version was the first version that I read that was written in more 'plain English'

The Common English Bible is a translation completed in 2011.

One hundred and twenty biblical scholars from twenty-two faith traditions worked as translators.

These women and men balanced rigorous accuracy in translation of the ancient texts with an equally passionate commitment to clarity of expression in contemporary English.

The result is a clear, direct, and powerful English version of the scriptures for use in Bible study, devotional reading, and worship.

Someone recommended that I try reading the scriptures 'chronologically' one year and I was so happy that the Holy Spirit impressed me to take on the challenge.

Spiritual leaders of all generations have agreed upon the importance of daily Bible reading as a vital means of growth and maturity. Many Bible readers have wished for a method that would help them with the discipline of a regular, systematic study of God's inspired Word. "The One Year Chronological Bible" not only met this need but also gave many a perspective that cannot be seen from a Bible laid out in canonical order.

    What is the canonical order?

The canonical order is the order in which the books of the Bible are normally arranged. This order groups books of similar content together. The books of the Bible are arranged canonically in the following order: Law (Genesis-Deuteronomy), History (Joshua-Esther), Wisdom Literature (Job-Song of Songs), Prophets (Isaiah-Malachi), Gospels (Matthew-John), early church history (Acts), Pauline Epistles (Romans-Philemon), General Epistles (Hebrews-Jude), and Apocalyptic Literature (Revelation). The canonical order was developed by Jerome, who translated the Bible into Latin in the late fourth century ad.

Although Jerome's order is logical, it does not clearly represent the order in which the events of the Bible unfolded. For instance, why are the books that record the Israelites' return from captivity (Ezra and Nehemiah) arranged before the prophetic books that predict their exile (Jeremiah and Ezekiel)? Or how do the four accounts of Christ's life fit together? To give you a more historical perspective, the Scriptures in "The One Year Chronological Bible" have been arranged in chronological order.

    What is chronological order?

Chronological order is the order in which the events occurred in time. In "The One Year Chronological Bible, " all Scripture is arranged according to the time sequence of the events. The return of the Israelites from captivity, therefore, comes after the earlier prophets and Daniel, rather than before them. In addition, all four accounts of Christ's life are woven together, giving a clear picture of Christ's time on earth from birth to his ascension into heaven.
